Judeo-Christian Outreach Center Helps Vincent Find a New Home

By Kristin Ward

The Judeo-Christian Outreach Center’s staff, partners and volunteers are celebrating 32 years of feeding

the hungry and sheltering the homeless! People like Vincent.

The week of Thanksgiving was an exciting time for Vincent. He signed a lease and was handed the key to

a new apartment at the Housing Resource Center (HRC)! It was beginning to look like Christmas for him.

The last ten months had been hard and long.

The heavy equipment operator and former truck driver experienced a health crisis in February 2018.

After missing too much work, Vincent lost his job and eventually his home. Never expecting to become

homeless, he began living in his car in April. With the help of food stamps, Vincent bought items he

didn’t have to cook. Vincent would clean up in public restrooms.

Recovery from his health crisis was hard and expensive. He found out about JCOC’s Day Support

program at the HRC. Over a series of visits Vincent received help at the site’s medical clinic and

completed the necessary paperwork to receive Social Security benefits early. Our Housing Support

Specialists referred Vincent to JCOC’s Rapid Rehousing Team, and within 11 days an apartment opened

up at the HRC!

“It’s wonderful. It’s great,” Vincent said of his new place. “It’s just the right size.”

This Washington Redskins and Ohio State Buckeyes fan would love to return to work, but he is still

experiencing muscle and joint problems. Vincent is grateful for the network of support that JCOC has

wrapped around him. “This has been a wonderful experience,” he said.

Be a Part of JCOC’s Network of Support! Help the hungry and homeless today and throughout the
